RainChild Creative

...is a small-batch screen printing and design studio dedicated to creating handmade wearable art, rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and slow fashion.

From concept to creation, every piece is thoughtfully designed and hand printed on a manual press. In the face of capitalistic pressures pushing fast fashion and artificial imagery, each piece acts as a small rebellion-- honoring time, attention, and the importance of the human touch.

Inspired by the curiosities of nature, the silly phrases that emerge from late-night conversations in good company, and the tiny details that often go unnoticed, RainChild Creative invites you to

look closer, stay curious, and wear art that sparks a conversation.

Hi there!

I’m Israella Rain Freidline, the artist, printer, and human behind RainChild Creative.

I love to make art: serigraphy, linocut, photography, graphic design, and I even consider thrifting an art. RainChild Creative has become the perfect place for me to bring all of my artistic endeavors together.

I am an artist but I am also a traveler, an eclipse chaser, a frog enthusiast, a Survivor super fan, a wannabe waterbender, an amateur nail artist, a part-time poet, an event planner, a lifelong student and… of course… a silly goose.

But before any of that, I am first a human being who lives for a living.

I lay and watch the clouds. I listen to the cicadas at night. I laugh with my friends until my stomach hurts. I travel, I learn from others, and I pay attention to the small details that make both people and the natural world so endlessly interesting. I am constantly leaning in and learning, from observing the way varying geographic features change the way clouds form to discussing the intercultural differences of how a meal is shared from one culture to the next.

A lot of my art comes from trying to capture fragments of those experiences. The world is a beautiful place, and we have the wonderful opportunity to experience and appreciate it as human beings, conscious of ourselves who get to communicate through many mediums. And I choose to put my art on clothes, so that you may learn something, collect a piece of functional art, make it your own with how you style it, and perhaps even spark an interesting conversation.

I am just beginning. I have a long list of ideas inspired by the natural world and the Anthropocene, and if any of this resonates with you, I’d love for you to stick around awhile.

Meet Mr. Jr!

I first created Mr. Jr. in kindergarten back in 2009. Inspired by the colorful style of a friend’s Romero Britto calendar, I drew my favorite Webkinz stuffed animal and earned “Artist of the Week” for the piece.

Named after my big brother’s first two Webkinz plushies,

Mr. Jr. quickly became a staple character of mine. Not long after his creation, he gained his crown when my childhood favorite Disney film, The Princess and the Frog, was released that same year.

Over the years, Mr. Jr. has gone through many iterations, growing alongside my creativity and artistic skill. He most often appeared as a doodle in the margins of notebooks, stuck around as the test sketch for a new pen or as a little signature on a birthday card, and eventually got promoted to the face of RainChild Creative.

Through it all, Mr. Jr. has remained my little creative companion and now keeps me company as I embark on my biggest creative adventure yet.

A large part of the perspectives I’ve built and discovered throughout my life comes from my years working with the AFAR (American Foreign Academic Research) archaeological field school.

Over the past 11 years with AFAR, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in archaeological fieldwork across Spain, Portugal, and Belize, first as a student, then later as a chaperon and site photographer, and now resident designer and printer. Through those experiences, I’ve learned not only about history and archaeology, but about people, culture, community, and the many different ways humans exist and connect with one another.

AFAR, and especially its founder Mat Saunders, has played a huge role in shaping both who I am and how RainChild Creative exists today. The opportunities, mentorship, trust, and support I’ve received through Mat and AFAR have helped give me the confidence and foundation to build this little dream into something real.

A huge thank you!
